IN SPRING VALLEY.
I was elected to Spring Valley Village Board of Trustees in 2001
In 2002 I was appointed Deputy Mayor of the Village of Spring Valley and presently serving in that capacity. I have a vast knowledge, experience and the ability to perform the duties of this high office. , I attended The Leadership Training Institute for elected officials. I have earned a degree in management from the American Management Association. And I certified in Economic Development, by the State of New York.
In 2002 I also was appointed liaison for Fire and Safety I helped revamp laws to make sure every multiple dwellings installed fire detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. I secured more than $130,000 for a new Sub-station located on east side of the Village.
In 2003 I was appointed liaison for Economic Development where by I spearheaded the efforts to filled the Marketplace with stores such as Target, Christmas Tree Shops, Michaels, and Bed Bath and Beyond, I assisted in the expansion of BMW and a new Masserari auto complex on route 59 I brought together a new Federal Employees Credit Union all of which created more than 1500 new jobs in Spring Valley.
I helped obtain millions of dollars in anti-crime grants which were used to effectively reduce crime by 67% in the Village
I helped get Main Street Revitalization back on track. Its usually takes more than thirty years in many municipalities to structure policies for urban renewal, but in Spring Valley, it took us less than five years to start the process. Today we can see the transformation of Main Street with the new building, which will provide 53 units for senior citizens. There will be another sixty-three units, of affordable housing for families and I am bringing in an additional 300 new housing units downtown and twenty-six affordable housing units to north Spring Valley.
As we grow in this diverse community, it is very important that the residents, who live and invest in our Village, continue to be included in the building and planning efforts of the Village, and fortify a partnership.
I helped build six new Recreational Parks. Tiger Den’s Park, Unity Park, Village on the Green Park, Jay Street Park, Babbin Court Park, Gerner Drive Park, soon to come, the Kennedy Park
I started a quality of life campaign which has included Clean-up-Days, and removal of hundreds of wrecked and/or abandoned vehicles from the Village
I helped replace miles of sidewalks, curves and roadways.
I spearheaded the efficient snow removal and worked with surrounding towns to do they part of cleaning.
I helped stabilize tax rates by controlling spending and fixing a falsified assessment roll and debts inherited from the previous administration. Not only did we pay the outstanding debts, we also implement a pay as you go system. We also controlled spending, which resulted in a two million dollar surplus.
With my hard work Spring Valley has a mere 3.35% increase for 2009/2010 while other Villages in Rockland County have double-digit increase. In spite of the economic crisis the nation is facing. As the liaison for the economic development I worked with much influence to bring other new businesses into the village. Among them I am proud to announce are, two new hotels is coming in Spring Valley, Holyday Inn Express, and Westin Hotel, and new I-hop, which will create 500 new jobs in Spring Valley, and translate to tax increment to benefit the village in the future.
I have been a strong voice, in representing the interest of disadvantaged people in our Village. And I’m one who will promise less and deliver more.
I was at the forefront to find new homes for Head Start of Spring Valley and Konbit Neg Lakay, I obtained thousands of dollars for The Martin Luther King Center, New Beginnings, Gemp Step, HAPA, IFG Production, HACSO and Child Care Resources, under the Community Development Grants.
As a leader, I will continue to fight to ensure, that Spring Valley receives its fair share of Federal, State and County Funding.
With a strong emphasis on education from every aspect of government, I will bring pride back to Spring Valley.
I will continue to serve with dignity, convenance and a personal regard for the citizenry of our progressive Spring Valley.
Leaders of the community, Friends, supporters, and fellow Democrats, I am asking you, to support my candidacy for Mayor of The Village of Spring Valley. I have been effective, and work proficiently in my capacity as Deputy Mayor of this progressive Village. I am fit and ready to serve.
Thank you.
